Time for reflection equals rejuvenation, at least for me! Last summer I had the opportunity to join a small group of friends for a week canoeing 100 miles down the Green River to its confluence with the Colorado River. The theme for the trip was simplicity. Our days were filled with swimming, gentle paddling, floating, photography and the basics of camping.
The opportunity to see lots of wildlife and the continual exposure to magnificent desert reflections on the river kept us alert and eager to round the next bend. My mind had time to settle into rhythms and at night, under the star-filled firmament, to reflect on where we’d been and anticipate where we were going. And in the bigger picture to consider where I’ve been in my life and where I’m going!
As a wedding officiant that loves to perform ceremonies in unique wedding locations I was also continually spotting perfect outcrops, amphitheaters and other features of nature that lent themselves to being an outdoor wedding location. Alas it was all fantasy and my wedding celebrant passions were given a week of vacation as well.
Here are a few of my pictures. I hope they convey the beauty we were immersed in as well as the reflective nature of the trip!
